The starting point for the installation Fluchtpunkt Hanoi is an extraordinary German migration story in the 20th century.

The protagonists are Harry Schünadel, his partner Le Thi Hai and their children Henri and Lina. Lina's daughter Marina, son-in-law Ottjörg and granddaughter Nina reflect the family story from a personal point of view. Author and media specialist Thomas Gaschler adds an outside perspective. Cultural differences, the significance of what can be called home and questions around the individual within a historical context are illuminated from different angles.

Finissage:
Thursday 1 May, 3–9 pm. Salted Ca Phé. Enjoy a relaxed exchange on the many topical issues addressed in the exhibition whilst sipping a delicious Vietnamese coffee.

Vlado Martek, einer der bekanntesten kroatischen Dichter und Konzeptkünstler, wird im Waldgebiet Murellenberg/ Murellenschlucht in Berlin beim Deserteure-Denkzeichen eine temporäre künstlerische Intervention im Rahmen des Projekts „Menschenwald“ des Goethe-Instituts Kroatien durchführen. Der Treffpunkt ist am Waldeingang in der Glockenturmstraße neben der Eissporthalle (14053 Berlin Ruhleben).

Das Sonderprojekt beschäftigt sich mit dem Beispiel vergessener Hinrichtungsstätten in zwei Großstädten: Zagreb und Berlin, in den Gedenkparks Dotrščina und Murellenberg / Murellenschlucht und mit dem Lernen über den Nationalsozialismus und das Quisling-Ustascha-Regime.
Zwei Künstler, Vlado Martek (HR) und Patricia Pisani (AR/DE), wurden ausgewählt, sich unter der kuratorischen Leitung von Sasha Simpraga vom Virtuellen Museums Dotrščina durch kurze künstlerische Aufenthalte in Berlin und Zagreb mit den Erinnerungsorten vertraut zu machen und temporäre künstlerische Interventionen für jeden der Erinnerungsorte zu entwerfen – Martek in Berlin und Pisani in Zagreb.

PFLANZEN UND BLUMEN in der Kommunalen Galerie Berlin

Mit den Künstler*innen: EC Davies, Nathalie Giraud, Timo Kahlen, Reinhard Krehl, Rani Le Prince, Kathrin Linkersdorff, Lorcan O’Byrne, Nicolaus Schmidt, Eva-Maria Schön, Luzia Simons, Barbara Trautmann.

Pflanzen und Blumen zeigt wie unterschiedlich die Wahrnehmung der pflanzlichen Vielfalt sein kann. Differenzierte künstlerische Ansätze begleiten uns durch ein Panorama kostbarer Naturanschauungen. In Analogie an die Pflanzenwelt sind die durchweg poetischen Arbeiten kontrastreich und dennoch harmonisch.
Die Ausstellung lässt auch viele Fragen aufkommen: Pandemie und Klimaveränderungen haben die Fragilität unseres globalen Lebensraumes deutlicher gemacht.

The first publication on GAYHANE HomoOriental Dancefloor – House of Halay, in SO36, Berlin

A beautiful publication with stunning photographic portraits of all the major GAYHANE protagonists from the years 2002 to 2006. The elaborate slipcase houses an artist book and a magazine with essays by Fatma Souad, İpek İpekçioğlu, both founders of the dancefloor, the sociologist Kira Kosnick, and myself. I have written about the art project.
GAYHANE is a meeting place for lesbians, gays, "straights", men with beards and queers in high heels. In Arabic and Turkish, "Hane" means house. In addition to the photographs, Nicolaus Schmidt has developed his own mysterious script for this oriental cosmos of diversity. Like Arabic and Hebrew, it reads from right to left and makes reference to the photographs. It's like being immersed in another culture.
The magazine functions as an informative and factual documentation, even providing the key to read the fantasy script that quotes passages from the text of Schubert’s Winter Tale authored by Wilhelm Müller. In KOSMOS GAYHANE, German Romanticism meets with Arabic and Turkish popular music. In both, the pain of love is as deep as the ocean and as black as night.
